Position Summary:
The Student Intern will gain valuable hands-on experience working in community recreation, parks management, and event programming. This internship provides exposure to the daily operations of a municipal recreation department, including program planning, facility management, community engagement, and administrative support.
Essential Functions:
- Assist with planning, organizing, and implementing recreation programs, camps, or community events
- Support staff in the daily operations of parks, facilities, and athletic fields
- Help with marketing and promotion efforts, including social media posts, flyers, and community outreach
- Provide customer service to participants, parents, and community members
- Assist with data entry, program registration, and other administrative tasks
- Shadow recreation staff to learn about budget management, facility scheduling, and program evaluation
- Conduct surveys, track participation, and prepare simple reports on program performance
- Perform light maintenance and setup/teardown duties for programs and events as needed
Position Requirements
Education and Experience:Current high school or college students studying recreation, sports management, parks & recreation, public administration, or related field.
Skills:Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, or similar). Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends. A passion for community service, recreation, and public engagement.

Internship Details:
- Duration options: 6-12 weeks, seasonal, or semester-long
- Schedule: Flexible; typically 10-20 hours per week (can be adjusted for as necessary)
- Compensation: $14.00/hour flat rate
- Location: Spring Hill, KS 66083; various local facility locations
Working Conditions:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in an indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to all types of weather conditions is expected. Occasional exposure to machinery and excessive noise. Exposure to program materials and equipment such as but not limited to sports equipment, maintenance equipment, cooking and art supplies, etc.
Physical Requirements:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to operate, finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently stoop, kneel, crouch or bend. Manual labor including lifting and carrying heavy objects, as heavy as 50 lbs.
Special Requirements:Must be able to work a varied schedule which could include weekends, evenings, and/or holidays. Valid driver's license or reliable transportation.
